They were part of Task Force 1/41 which was attached to the 1st Inf. I was on the tip of the spear driver for a BFV, awake for 172 hours straight. Our first engagement was killing 30 Iraqi soldiers that later we learned were trying to surrender. I lost count of the thousands of enemy we killed.

Your comments are much needed this week. I was the driver for D 1-6 (7/6) and near the front of our formation with a platoon of tankers.

Bamberg was home two infantry units (6/6 & 7/6) and both were part of 3rd Brigade. And yes, we had our share of run-ins at the Green Goose . When pissed-off, our 1Sgt would regularly reference 6-6. "Ahh,ahh...take that shit down to 6-6 some goddamn where!"

During Desert Storm however, 6/6 was assigned to the heavily armored 2nd Brigade which was the "head-of-the-spear" for 1st AD. This was most likely why you were struggling to make sense of it. It was further convoluted by creating Task Forces (TF) and exchanging platoons of Bradleys with platoons of tanks. If you are still wishing to put pieces of the puzzle together, you'll want to track the movements of 2nd Brigade-especially Medina Ridge.

I currently work with veterans on daily basis and can confidently say that any forward member of 1st AD deployed for Desert Storm would have a valid claim for PTSD. For those not aware, the Aviation, 2nd, and 3rd Brigades were later awarded the "Valorous Unit Award" which is comparable to a Silver Star. It is definitely something to be proud of. Most folks don't realize that it "was only 100 hours"...of sustained combat and little to no sleep.
You can find the award order here under section 8 of DA GO 1994-12. http://armypubs.army.mil/epubs/pdf/go9412.pdf

I wish you the best and appreciate what you are doing. Mine came later after being witness to a horrific traffic accident. I too have found that selflessly helping others tends to have a cleansing effect.

"It may take a strong person to persevere, but it takes a fearless person to ask for help"
-MeAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8207713177773691778.post-7698870521466011912015-02-17T11:56:34.694-05:002015-02-17T11:56:34.694-05:00was right beside ya brother 1st armored 4/70 out o...was right beside ya brother 1st armored 4/70 out of Erlangen Germany
Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11266505515773647787noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8207713177773691778.post-73870627378863271182014-12-16T21:31:38.804-05:002014-12-16T21:31:38.804-05:00I was in the bradleys as well

They had poor emplacement locations that were 500 meters too far from the declination point. We took about 15 minutes of sustained artillery fire, and an Iraqi Battalion attempted to assault our position approaching to within 3000 meters of our big guns. This brought the close attention of 2 A-10's and 2 F-16's Cas. Our counter battery radar operators were top notch and we were able to silence all Medina Artillery in about 15 mins.
